8th Annual K2 31 Horror Movies in October (2018)

Maybe you heard something about this lil’ team called the Boston Red Sox winning this lil’ thing called the World Series? Just like 2013, this prevented us from completing all 31 movies. WORTH IT.

2018’s “theme” was recommendations. Every movie we watched HAD to be a recommendation from someone else.

To be fair, ‘Malevolent’ and ‘Errementari the blacksmith and the devil’, Slender Man, and Halloween weren’t recs so I’m not sure why we watched them. ‘Aspostle’ wasn’t a rec but Dan Stevens is in it so Kelly made an exception.

6th Annual 31 Horror Movies in October (2016)

Hey remember how I have this blog? Yeah, me neither. But lately I’ve been thinking that a note in my phone is NOT a great way to keep track of the horror movies we’ve watched during our annual fests.

Did we seriously miss this by ONE MOVIE in 2016?!

6th Annual 31 Horror Movies in October (’16)

  1. They Look Like People
  2. Jeruzalem
  3. The Dead Room

  24. Holidays
  25. Find Me
  26. Troll Hunter
  27. From the Dark
  28. Shiver
  29. Under the Shadow
  30. The Wailing

I don’t remember the majority of these but I do know that I liked:

  • Jeruzalem
  • Lights Out
  • Troll Hunter (I know, I didn’t expect to like it, either)

And The Green Inferno fucked me up worse than any movie in the history of film.

5th Annual 31 Horror Movies in October (2015)

LunopolisMatthew Avant and Hal Maynor in Lunopolis

1) Lunopolis: I watched this a couple of years ago and remembered really liking it, so when Kelly said she was in the mood for an alien movie, I suggested this. I liked it on the second watch as well, but it’s definitely not a horror movie. It is firmly on the sci-fi side of that line. I do recommend it, though!

2) Hangar 10: Found footage alien movie = right up my alley. It was tense and had some good creepy scenes. My only frustration was the last 2 minutes because I actually have NO IDEA what happened. The ending was highly unsatisfying, which leaves a bit of a bad taste over the whole movie for me.

3) Sinister: Sinister is one of the best scary movies out there, in my opinion. This was just a re-watch to prepare for Sinister 2 (of which I am already terrified).

4) Darkness: Well, about 5 minutes in I realized I’d already seen this. It took Kelly about 20 minutes to agree. So, I guess that’s pretty telling. Not great, not bad, not very memorable.

5) The Damned: Decent acting, decent story… but just eh. It was VERY predictable and the characters made some of the DUMBEST decisions ever.

6) As Above So Below: YES! I won’t say much other than this is one of my favorite horror movies in a LONG time.

7) The Culling: Lazy storytelling? Check. Terrible acting? Check. Stupid characters who make STUPID decisions? Check. Horrible script? Check. Ridiculous special effects? Check. Huge amounts of regret for finishing it? Check.

8) The Lazarus Effect: One of the better movies we’ve seen this year, for sure! It has Olivia Wilde and a few good jumps, so I recommend.

9) Don’t Blink: Eh. I liked the idea, but it just didn’t execute very well. I didn’t HATE it, but I definitely wouldn’t recommend it.

10) Jessabelle: I liked this one a LOT. I actually laid awake the night after and thought about it for a long time. It had good jumps, a lot of sensory scares (screaming chills me to the bone), and the element of the main character being in a wheelchair added this really helpless feeling. Definitely recommend!

11) Always Watching: A Marble Hornest Story So, this was a weird one in that I wasn’t overly scared watching it (other than the usual found footage makes me tense sort of feel), but I laid awake for HOURS last night thinking about it. The idea of a faceless man following you when you can’t see him is creepy enough to carry the movie.

Serious Injury List

Serious Injury List

1/13/15 – approx. 8:20am: Slammed myself in the car door. Gave myself a light mammogram, SMASHED my shin. Got queasy and angry. Had to pretend to be happy b/c male co-worker waved to me.

1/14/15 – approx. 6:15pm: Eating Cheetos Puffs. Mostly tried to lick cheesy dust off my finger. I pulled away and she swiped at me. Her claw got stuck in my hand, just above the thumb, and had to be removed manually.

1/18/15 – time unknown: I looked down and was bleeding from a cut on my left index finger. No idea how it happened.

1/19/15 – approx 12pm: I was walking past Mostly and she swiped at me, cutting the top of my right index finger. Different location than the cut on the left index finger. They do not match.

1/20/15 – 12:55pm: Bashed my wrist on break room door handle. Left a big red mark for at least the last 3 minutes, probably more.

1/21/2015 – approx 7:50am: Snowy morning so my shoes were wet when I got to work. Had to use the bathroom so I chose the handicap stall. Approximately 3/4 of the way to the toilet, I slid. Left leg stayed planted. Right lid slid almost to the wall and then locked. Knee hurt for approx. 2 hours. Now the pain runs from the knee, up the back of the thigh, all the way to my shoulder.

New Years Focuses, 2015

I’m actually somewhat anti-New Years Resolutions. I get the point but, realistically, who actually keeps these? I did a fairly good job in 2014 – I wanted to bake and read more and I definitely did a lot of both. This year, though, I’m choosing to FOCUS on certain things. So rather than watching so much TV or napping (I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’m still gonna nap. I basically live for naps. But maybe just less/shorter naps.), I want to focus my time and energy on some other things.

  • Health. I was recently diagnosed as diabetic, and I really haven’t been doing very well on the things my Diabetes Educator has suggested. I’m doing a lot better than I was prior to the diagnosis, but that’s not good enough. I want/need to focus on my carbs, monitoring my blood sugar, getting in daily activity, drinking more water, eating more veggies, and definitely kicking my potato chip habit.
  • Writing. Journaling, blogging, brainstorming, ANYTHING. JUST WRITE.
  • School. Pick a major, sort out the financial aid, and just ENROLL ALREADY.
  • Cats. Don’t adopt anymore, for starters. I need to play with them more, get them more beds/places to hide out, find ways to get them more window seating, get them on a feeding schedule/diet, and start brushing Indy’s teeth (per vets’ orders).
  • Reading. I’ve done a great job the last quarter of this year. In the last 3-4 months I’ve read 10 books and I’m currently reading 2 others that I expect to finish by next week. I’d love to keep this up. Being in a Book Club will help this, but I want to keep reading books on the side of that. (So, any great book suggestions? Let me know in comments!)

I also want to find a hobby, but I’m at a loss of where to start. I need something to do with my hands – maybe knit or crochet? I just feel like so much of my time is spent doing something unproductive. I want to DO something or CREATE something or BE something. I don’t even know, which is why this is yet to be a true focus.

More TBD.
